September Dharma Talk

  • Buddhist Vihara 5016 16th Street Northwest Washington, DC, 20011 United States (map)

The wonderful Sister Hai An, Sister Ocean, will be joining us on September 6th, giving a dharma talk on the Four Noble Truths in daily life. Our evening will begin at 6:30pm with sitting and walking meditation followed by Sister Ocean's talk as well as Q & A.

Sister Ocean received her novice ordination from Thay in 2012, training at Plum Village monastery in France and at Blue Cliff in upstate New York. She left the monastery in 2018 to pursue studies and longer retreats. She holds the teachings of Plum Village as her core practice, blending them with the Theravada tradition, mystical Christianity, and social justice teachings. She loves supporting people in practical and creative ways to develop mindfulness, compassion, and joy in daily life.

She is a musician and a poet with a BFA in Theater.  She is a member of Www.dharmapathways.org, a collaboration of monastics ordained in the Plum Village tradition who have branched out from the traditional monastery setting, seeking to reach and serve individuals and communities interested in mindfulness and meditation practices. She is also an active member of the ARISE Sangha, dedicated to bringing racial justice to the forefront of the Plum Village community.
