Evening of Remembrance, Sunday November 6

Dear Friends

This Sunday, Nov 6, the Washington Mindfulness Community will hold our annual Evening of Remembrance via Zoom.

The evening will begin at 6:15pm with the beautiful Avalokiteshvara Chant sung by the monks and nuns of Plum Village.

At 6:30, we will have our usual sitting meditation, followed by a special ceremony of remembrance to honor the loved ones we’ve lost, especially over (but not limited to) the last year.

In honor of Thây’s passing this year we will practice a short touchings of the earth to our blood ancestors, to our spiritual ancestors, and to our connection with all beings. Traditionally the touchings are practiced with prostrations. However, to keep this shortened form simple and quiet, we will touch the fingers of one hand to what we are sitting on (ground/earth) as our prostration.

This evening gives us an opportunity to share transmissions of those remembered. If you plan to share a remembrance, you are invited to bring a photo, memento, story, song, poem, thought, or insight to share with the community, or, perhaps, simply have present with you something that brings you joy and comfort. And don’t forget your Kleenex.

We especially hope you will bring your open heart to listen deeply and support the sharing of others. You do not need to have anyone in mind to participate in tenderly holding space for the entire community.

In order to keep the quiet, contemplative atmosphere of the evening, we will be posting any sangha announcements in the reminder email sent that earlier that day.

Please join us for this beautiful evening of practice. If you would like to join, please write to us at wmcsangha@gmail.com and we will send you login details.
