WMC Online, Sunday May 29

Dear Friends

Please join us this Sunday, May 29, at 6:30pm EST, as we hold our weekly WMC mindfulness practice via Zoom.

After sitting meditation we’ll read Nourishing Happiness, watch a portion of a dharma talk by Thich Nhat Hahn, and have an opportunity to practice dharma sharing. The entire program will run about 60 minutes total.

As we reflect on the tragedies of the recent shootings, this week’s dharma talk shows That talking about how to transform violence in to engaged positive action:

In this spirit, let us also take a moment to reflect on the First Mindfulness Training, Reverence for Life:

Aware of the suffering caused by the destruction of life, I am committed to cultivating the insight of interbeing and compassion and learning ways to protect the lives of people, animals, plants, and minerals. I am determined not to kill, not to let others kill, and not to support any act of killing in the world, in my thinking, or in my way of life. Seeing that harmful actions arise from anger, fear, greed, and intolerance, which in turn come from dualistic and discriminative thinking, I will cultivate openness, non-discrimination, and non-attachment to views in order to transform violence, fanaticism, and dogmatism in myself and in the world.

If you would like to join us virtually, please write to us at wmcsangha@gmail.com, and we will send you the Zoom link for the meeting.

Our Sangha is supported by dana - donations given from the heart. A large part of your tax deductible donation goes to help the Thich Nhat Hanh Foundation (which right now is pretty much all that is supporting our monks and nuns in monasteries around the world). Your generosity also helps support the Vihara (the monastery that hosts our meetings in DC in ‘normal’ times), WMC expenses, the library, and your own practice. These remain difficult times for so many, but if you can afford to make a contribution, you can do so via the Donate page on this website.

Take good care of yourselves and each other, and we’ll see you Sunday! ️
